Files and photos tell stories

Purging a mountain of files provides a sweet reward of memories. (Image courtesy of the author)

Whether you are downsizing, reorganizing your office, digitizing paper files and photos, or just updating and purging, you are likely spending countless hours going through years of accumulated stuff.

Since my dad’s death this spring, I have been spending weeks going through his 95 years of memorabilia. Quintessentially Type A, he saved everything. I try to obey the one touch rule, but am often distracted. Whatever I read opens another chapter of Daddy’s incredible life, revealing forgotten parts of his history.

It is said that loved ones do not die; rather, they live on through the memories they leave behind.
